Salem Inspired & Locally Made
The ability of ordinary people to affect change in Oregon is a long-standing tradition. Design and construction of The Holman building is inspired by the pioneers, farmers, vintners, and government leaders that have brought modernity and affluence to Oregon. Inside, history meets art. Far from ordinary.
Step into a world of unique and light filled gathering spaces, all named after Salem’s most innovative and influential women – Mary Purvine, one of Oregon’s first female doctors; Anna Duerksen, one of Salem Hospital’s founders; and Chloe Willson, the first teacher at Willamette University.
Elizabeth Lord and Edith Schryver made the most notable imprints on Salem – the gardens at Historic Deepwood Estate and Bush’s Pasture Park. Their contributions to the city of Salem and their longtime community involvement are a highlight in the history of Oregon, and a tribute to pioneering women in business. Bespoke and curated through the lens of art, much like their namesakes, the Elizabeth Lord and Edith Schryver hospitality suites at The Holman are perfect for small business meetings or casual, yet refined hosting.
Honoring the female pioneers of its day, The Holman features innovative, visually stunning contemporary art of women, or designed by female artists. Contemporary modern artist Sara Pope is well known for her bold, seductive paintings that take inspiration from Haute Couture fashion and beauty trends, capturing the glamour and power conveyed by the lips and mouth, raising questions of ideals of beauty and femininity. Lauren Baker, a British contemporary multidisciplinary artist, uses light to express the ‘secrets of the universe’ and aims to raise the vibration of love and connection within the world.
The Holman also aims to support small and local businesses that are the lifeline of Oregon and Washington communities, supporting a strong economy built by healthy businesses. These businesses honor timeless traditions and crafts, and share a love for their community and their customers. Explore these many unique items in The Holman’s Market:
